Over the years, the primroses, grape hyacinths and other early spring flowers have multiplied and hybridized to create a rich carpet of color beneath the old apple trees.  Click the images for full screen views. Click here for more views of the Primrose Garden.

Primulae and mysotis
Several varieties of Narcissus blend with forget-me-nots beneath old conifers. Narcissi beneath old conifers.
Magnolia and azalea in bloom above narcissi. Here is seen the layering effect of a Rhododendron 'P.J.M.' beneath  Magnolia x soulangiana and above a drift of Narcissus showing nicely against the rock.
In contrast to the 'natural' planting above, these mono-color blocks of  tulips show another way to use spring bulbs that is particularly effective close to a building. The beautiful stone wall was constructed in a class given regularly.
Bright colored tulips show dramatically against the barn wall.
