Preserving Apples the Freund Way
Berkshire Botanical Garden
In this workshop on Saturday, Oct. 26, from 1 to 3:30 p.m. and led by Theresa Freund of Freund's Farm Market and Bakery, participants will turn a variety of locally grown apples into apple butter. Beginning with the applesauce process, we will make a thick, spiced spread to use on toast, oatmeal, meats, and other foods. Participants will take home 8 to 10 half-pint jars of butter.
Theresa Freund joined Freund’s Farm (@freundsfarmmarket) in 1979 as a farmhand and married Matthew Freund in 1982. She chose marketing over milking as she grew her family to six children. In 1995, Theresa moved her business operations from the front yard farm stand to the backyard where she now fills Freund’s Farm Market, a two-story post and beam red barn, with seasonal and local products.
