Enjoy a lecture and Q&A session with author Kathryn Aalto, whose new book, Writing Wild (available for purchase in our online shop), examines the pioneering and imaginative women who dared to do the unimaginable: to pick up a pen and write under their own names; to record their protests, poetry and prose; and to change history. Learn about the 25 women, historical and living, whose influential nature-writing has deepened our connection to and understanding of the natural world. These inspiring scholars, spiritual seekers, conservationists, scientists, novelists and explorers defy easy categorization but share a bold authenticity that makes their work both distinct and universal. A hybrid of travel essay, literary biography and cultural history, Writing Wild ventures into the landscapes and lives of extraordinary writers and encourages a new generation of women to pick up their pens, head outdoors and start writing wild. Our Summer Author Series is presented in collaboration with Tower Hill Botanic Garden and Workman Publishing.

Kathryn Aalto is an American historian, garden designer and New York Times bestselling author of three books, including The Natural World of Winnie-the-Pooh (2015) and Writing Wild: Women Poets, Ramblers, and Mavericks Who Shape How We See the Natural World (2020). She lives in England.
