America and Europe: A Virtuous Wine Story

When:
Thursday, June 11, 2026
Where:

Berkshire Botanical Garden

Join Philippe Jeanjean, a WSET Level 3–certified sommelier from Paris, for an enlightening tasting experience that spans two continents. Since the 18th century, classic European grape varieties have found new homes in American soils. Today, regions like California, Oregon, Washington, and the Finger Lakes of New York craft wines that rival Europe’s finest, yet with their own distinct personality. In this class on Thursday, June 11, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., you’ll taste and compare wines made from the same grape varieties in both Europe and America, discovering how climate, soil and winemaking traditions shape each bottle. Experience the story of wine across the Atlantic. Sip, compare and explore the virtues of both worlds.

Philippe Jeanjean is from a small village near Montpellier, nestled in the picturesque Languedoc-Roussillon, in the south of France. His family roots trace back generations to this wine region. Growing up amidst vineyards, grape harvesting, and the art of winemaking, he developed a profound appreciation for the local gastronomy. Philippe has an MBA from Babson College and has worked with Hewlett-Packard for over 20 years as an engineer. He is a Level 3 (with honors) WSET Certified Sommelier from the prestigious Ecole Des Vins et Spiritueux in Paris and a member of the Society of Wine Educators. His connection to cultural life in the Berkshires is strong, and he enjoys music and cooking as well as various French culture and conversation groups. He now channels his passion into helping people learn about food and wine. Learn more about Philippe Jeanjean at BerkshireSommelier.com
