Ikebana: A Four-Session Series
Berkshire Botanical Garden
Explore the timeless art of Japanese flower arranging with artist and horticultural therapist Brian Mikesell. Rooted in a 500-year-old tradition and originally part of Buddhist altar practices, ikebana blends historical techniques with modern styles, offering rich opportunities for creative expression. Across four Friday sessions you’ll learn about kado, “the way of flowers,” which emphasizes the arranger’s mindset, intention and connection to nature. Participants will create their own compositions, gaining skills in both traditional and contemporary approaches while enjoying the mindfulness, creativity and wellness benefits ikebana provides. We welcome both beginners and those with prior experience, with instruction tailored to individual skill levels. The registration fee includes a beginner supply set (kenzan and vase) and fresh flowers for each class, allowing you to take your creations home to enjoy or share.
