Learn Sustainable Garden Care and Maintenance
On ZOOM
Design smarter, more sustainable gardens by understanding how maintenance shapes long-term success. In this six-week course, Daryl Beyers guides students through the essential maintenance considerations that belong in every garden design, meeting Saturdays from Jan. 24 through Feb. 28, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Participants will deepen their horticultural knowledge while learning how to make plant selections that balance sustainability, durability and cost-effectiveness. The course covers practical techniques for perennials, woody plants, and lawns, including transplanting, staking, fertilizing, winter protection, mulching, plant health, and pest management, with special attention to deer control, giving students the tools to create gardens that thrive long after installation.
Daryl Beyers (@newgardenershandbook) is the author of "The New Gardener’s Handbook: Everything You Need to Know to Grow a Beautiful and Bountiful Garden", (Timber Press). As the gardening certificate program coordinator at the New York Botanical Garden, he helps guide the program’s curriculum and teaches the popular Fundamentals of Gardening course and courses in container gardening and garden design. With over thirty years of professional landscaping experience, specializing in residential garden design and development, Daryl has created and cared for numerous client gardens across the country. His next book, "The New Garden Designer", will be published in June 2026.
