Intro to Stone Masonry

Learn the fundamentals of stone masonry in this hands-on class led by Sam Mercier of Mercier Stone on Sat., April 11 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The course begins with a classroom demonstration and Q&A, covering the essential planning and preparation steps for starting new projects or repairing existing stonework.
Participants will then explore BBG’s grounds, examining masonry in practice and learning techniques for addressing stone that has settled or worn over time. Instruction moves from planning to hands-on skills with masonry tools, finishes and fabrication methods, including traditional stone splitting, chiseling and other essential techniques. Ideal for anyone interested in stone construction, restoration or landscaping, this class provides both practical knowledge and a deep appreciation for the craftsmanship behind lasting stone projects.
