Gardeners Checklist: Here is What to Do on the Week of Dec. 18

By Ron Kujawski

Gardening is my passion. Yet, at this time of year I like to take a break, albeit a brief one, from gardening tasks. OK, some tasks cannot be ignored. For instance, houseplants still need to be watered and groomed. However, my pruning tools will remain in the tool shed, dirty pots will remain dirty for another week and seed catalogs will be placed in a stack to be read at a later time. This week I will immerse myself in the joy of Christmas. I’m going to listen to carols and hymns, read my favorite Christmas stories and reminisce about Christmas past, present and future with family and friends.

I hope your Christmas will be a merry one. Best wishes!

Ron Kujawski began gardening at an early age on his family's onion farm in upstate New York. Although now retired, he spent most of his career teaching at the UMass Extension Service. He serves on Berkshire Botanical Garden’s Horticulture Advisory Committee. His book, Week-by-Week Vegetable Gardener’s Handbook, is available here.
